Right around a corner or two from our hotel in Rome is the Pantheon. In fact, on my last afternoon in Rome, I was exploring the neighborhood close to our hotel. As I came around a corner, I found myself at the Pantheon. A crowd had gathered around a street musician who was playing guitar, Santana style, and singing for the impromptu audience. I sat down at one of the open restaurants and enjoyed a glass of wine and the beautiful site of the Pantheon. The Pantheon sits on the site of a temple that was first built in 25 BC. The Pantheon is one of the best preserved building from ancient Rome and was rebuilt in the time frame of AD 118. Unbelievable! The building is lit by a round hole in the top of the domed ceiling. It has the history of being a church in AD 609. It is now the home of the tomb of the famous artist, Raphael who died in 1520.
